Think grass. Act wise.

GrassWise puts better grassland management on solid ground – bringing together farmers, researchers, advisors and policymakers to turn knowledge, data and innovation into practical solutions.

More Than Just Grass

Grasslands do far more than feed livestock. They store carbon, support biodiversity, protect soils and water, and keep rural economies and landscapes alive.

GrassWise brings these different roles into one picture. By connecting what happens on the ground with what can be measured through data, GrassWise develops tools, practical innovations and evidence to help communities make better choices for grasslands, farms and the wider environment.

How It All Comes Together

Understanding Europe's Grasslands

From the ground up, GrassWise brings together field observations, satellite data and existing datasets to build a clearer picture of grassland performance across Europe’s nine pedoclimatic zones. By connecting this evidence with knowledge from farmers, researchers, advisors and policymakers, the project reveals how grasslands contribute to productivity, biodiversity and climate resilience.

Turning Data into Better Decisions

GrassWise will turn grassland data into practical tools that support better decisions. A new Grassland Data Platform will bring together farm data, field observations and satellite-based information, while benchmarking and scenario tools will help users compare grassland performance and explore the effects of different management choices. Building on existing solutions such as PastureBase Ireland, these tools will help farmers and advisors improve grassland management and provide researchers and policymakers with better evidence for future strategies and policies.

Growing Innovation on Farm

Through Partner Farm Networks, Communities of Practice and a strong Multi-Actor Approach, GrassWise will work directly with farmers and stakeholders to test innovations, share knowledge and co-develop practical solutions tailored to different farming systems and regional conditions.

Supporting Better Policies for Sustainable Grasslands

GrassWise will transform scientific evidence and practical experience into policy recommendations that strengthen the Common Agricultural Policy and other European sustainability initiatives, helping ensure grasslands continue to deliver food, biodiversity and climate benefits for future generations.
